Hello Witches!

Who’s in for some Mugwort Foraging just before the Equinox? Mugwort is a favourite of Witches, considered a plant to induce lucid dreaming and psychic visions and a direct gift from the goddess Artemis, hence its Latin name Artemisia Vulgaris. As it is a Lunar plant ruled by the Moon we’re going to gather it on a Monday (day of the Moon) while the Moon is in her own sign of Cancer (meaning she’s super happy). The early afternoon time is also to catch the planetary hour of the Moon which is going to be between 14:15 and 15:23 on that day (don’t worry if you’re not familiar with those terms, Ysha will happily talk your ear off if you’d like to learn more about it). Suffice to say: it’s going to be a great magical time to harvest mugwort! We will talk about how to dry and store the leaves but note: we do not advise mugwort consumption, more on that later.

This is Mugwort (Artemisia Vulgaris)

actual mugwort bush from Bute East Dock

What to bring with you

Sharp Scissors or Pruning Shears: These tools help you cut the stems cleanly without damaging the plant.

Garden Gloves: Protect your hands from any irritants and thorns.

Basket or Cloth Bag: Use this to collect the harvested mugwort. A breathable container helps prevent moisture buildup.

WARNING: NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION

Note we are NOT foraging Mugwort to ingest or consume but to dry and make bundles to fumigate or make dream pillows. We DO NOT advise you consume mugwort and take no responsibility if you decide to go against this advice.

That is because Mugwort typically contains the neurotoxin compound thujone the toxicity of which to humans is believed to be weak, though some studies have linked high concentrations of thujone to seizures and an abortive effect, so again NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION!

Mugwort pollen is one of the main sources of hay fever and allergic asthma so we do not recommend you participate if you suffer from either of those conditions.
